South Africa

Welcome to my South Africa pages. My motivation for doing these pages was to learn more about the districts (most South Africans know a bit about the provinces) and to teach myself asp. Hence these pages have a district bias. After compiling these I have succeeded in both and have also learn a bit of Java and improved my SQL. Hopefully they are of interest to others.

Disclaimer: Please don't use the information on these pages without checking it. I do not vouch for the accuracy of any of it.

In a nutshell, South Africa is a fairly unitary state with some federal features. The main power still lies at national level i.e. with the republic. Thereafter, the provinces have some power followed by the municipalities. Ironicly, the districts probably have the least say. Nonetheless (in my opinion), the districts are probably the regional breakdown, to which people will most readily identify in the future, as they are probably a bit more homogeneous than the provinces. The may also become the basis of a future consituency system. So feel free to browse around our:

9 provinces
53 districts or
262 municipalities

So why don't you click on a district and get started.
